Types
of Cerebral Palsy

The Pennsylvania cerebral palsy attorneys of Messa &
Associates focus on many different types of cerebral palsy.
The type of cerebral palsy that is most common for children is spastic
cerebral palsy. This condition leads muscles to contract all the
time. Stiff muscles from spastic cerebral palsy can be in one or
multiple limbs of the child’s body: both arms, both legs,
right arm and right leg, left arm and left leg, one arm, one leg
or even three different limbs. Other types of cerebral palsy include:
- Spastic diplegia, which occurs when a child’s
legs automatically cross giving the child a scissor’s shaped
gait
- Spastic hemiplegia, which occurs when a child
has a shaking on half of his body
- Spastic quadriplegia, which occurs when a
child’s facial muscles have difficulty, including seizures
- Athetoid cerebral palsy, which occurs when
a child has slow movements in his limbs that are uncontrollable
- Ataxic cerebral palsy, which occurs when a
child can’t walk properly due to a lack of balance
If Your Child is Diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy
Messa & Associates works extensively with
families experiencing cerebral palsy difficulties. When a family
first receives the diagnosis that one of their children has cerebral
palsy, it is important to determine how the child developed the
condition. Figuring out whether the child had brain damage during
the delivery process or whether the brain damage occurred after
birth is an important first step in determining whether medical
bills will be paid by insurance companies.
Messa & Associates’ qualified Pennsylvania
cerebral palsy attorney can assist families in investigating the
causes of the condition as well as working with medical practitioners
and insurance companies to get the needed care.
